While we all manage the effect of the lockdown on our lives and work, many of us who are prevented from maintaining our normal work patterns are using the time to get out in nature and perhaps look up at the sky a bit more often. Here at Adventure Balloons we have always looked at the sky to get an indication of the weather. So one very noticeable effect of lock down is that we are currently seeing a total change in the appearance of the sky. The massive drop in aircraft activity and consequent absence of condensation trails in the sky has led to a great reduction in haze and far deeper blue than normal. Of course it isn’t just aircraft, our roads are quieter too so if we were flying we would be much less likely to see that layer of pollutant particles that form overnight and are sometimes present at around 1500 feet. And of course since the lockdown on the 23rd March virtually every day has been flyable in ballooning terms with very light winds ideal for drifting over the countryside….a rather perverse example of Sod’s Law you could say!
